September 21st is celebrated as a day of non-violence and cessation of hostilities at the global level according to UN Resolution brought in 2001. International Day of Peace was established by the UN General Assembly in 1981, to celebrate and strengthen the ideals among all peoples and nations.
Peace does not mean only the absence of war – peace is the absence of fear, hatred, poverty and injustice. Peace represents continuous efforts in both societies’ and individual development, and it is possible only on the basis of reached social balance and human safety.
As a member of Network of Peacebuilding in Bosnia and Herzegovina, we joined the global campaign to mark this important date with the unique slogan “Feel the Power of Peace.”
As in past, this year as well we marked the International Day of Peace on September 21st. Starting at 11:55 am at the central city square in Tuzla, we passed over messages of peace to Tuzla citizens through promotional material and performance in which our youngest citizens took part and expressed their perspective of peace through drawings and messages. Activity is implemented within Project “Women’s Education Center,” in partnership with the Association “Forum žena” Bratunac, and financially supported by Fondation Kvinna till Kvinna Sweden.
