Within the project ” Integration of the Principles of Gender Equality in the Local Community ” public forums were organized in Srebrenica , Bratunac , Kalesija and Lukavac during November 2013. Forums were conducted in partnership cooperation of Associations “Forum žena” Bratunac and “HO HORIZONTI”, financially supported by UN Women. Representatives of local communities as well as representatives of local authorities took active participation during the discussions on “Women, Peace and Security – presentation of results of research on attitudes about women’s understanding of peace and security in the area of Srebrenica, Bratunac, Lukavac and Kalesija in terms of representation of rural women in decision-making at the local level . ” In addition to presenting research results, facilitators presented national and international legal frameworks for equal participation of women in decision-making, Resolution 1325 and the Action Plan for the implementation of Resolution 1325 in Bosnia and Herzegovina – with special reference to Objective 1: Increased participation of women in decision-making at all levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Public forums were opportunity to remind the public about the extremely low representation of women in decision-making processes at the local level, the importance of women’s participation in community councils and to invite women to stand and vote for women.
