Obilježavanje 16 dana aktivizma
Celebrating 16 days of activism

Violence against women and girls is still the most common form of human rights violation today. Global data, as well as those related to Bosnia and Herzegovina, are devastating: one in three women have experienced beatings, forced sexual relations or experienced some other form of abuse. The bully is usually a man from their close environment, and violence against women knows no boundaries: racial, religious, cultural, or economic differences. An additional problem is the fact that most violence against women still remains unreported and unpunished.

According to the decision of the UN in 1999, November 25 is celebrated throughout the world as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Every year on November 25, the 16 Days of Activism campaign begins, which lasts until December 10, the International Human Rights Day. For this year's theme of the 16 Days of Activism campaign, common to the whole world, was chosen: From peace in the home to peace in the world: Let's challenge militarism and end violence against women!

As part of the "16 days of activism" campaign, the activists of the Association "HO HORIZONTI" organized a presentation of the Campaign for young women and girls from Tuzla on December 5 in the premises of the Association "HO HORIZONTI" Tuzla. The presentation introduced the "16 days of activism" campaign, the participants were directed to institutions and SOS phone numbers that they can contact in case they are exposed to violence or find themselves in the immediate vicinity. The same presentation was held on December 8, 2013 in the local community of Kovači, for a group of activists from this local community.

On the day of the International Human Rights Day, December 10, 2013, activists from the Association "HO HORIZONTI" Tuzla held a workshop on the topic "International Human Rights Day" in the Elementary School "Mejdan" with students of the 4th grade. The workshop is designed to present children's human rights through a conversation with the students. In schools, there is a great need to organize activities of this type in order for students to become familiar with their rights and obligations, because it is not sufficiently covered in the subject teaching.
